In addition to studying and clinical internships at the institute and university, extracurricular activities are essential for medical students and are considered criteria to assess their fulfillment of learning outcomes.
Recently, over 30 medical students from Phan Chau Trinh University embarked on a volunteer journey to Tu commune, Dong Giang district, a mountainous district in Quang Nam province. Here, the volunteers engaged in cultural exchange activities with the local residents to understand their living environment, customs, and habits. They also conducted surveys and gained insights into the health conditions of the local population. Using their specialized knowledge in health education, the students provided guidance to the community on hygiene practices and disease prevention. They conducted training sessions to teach essential first aid skills for snake or insect bites, water drowning, foreign object choking in children, wound bandaging, and more.
During this period, the volunteer group organized medical examinations and distributed free medications to over 200 elderly individuals and children, accompanied by faculty members and doctors from the university. Additionally, with the collaboration of teachers, parents, and students, the university awarded scholarships to financially disadvantaged students, and donated books and school supplies to those in need.
These activities are part of the university's annual training plan. They not only provide students with an opportunity to experience the culture of highland regions but also demonstrate the responsibility and conduct of healthcare professionals towards the community, society, and the surrounding environment.
It is worth mentioning that the university has previously collaborated with the Nam Giang District Health Center to support students in their internships and enhance their community healthcare capabilities. The collaboration includes cultural exchanges, scientific research cooperation, knowledge sharing, and improving the professional competence of doctors through short-term training courses and online consultations.
