On the past two days, October 2nd and 3rd, Phan Chau Trinh University organized an internal residency examination that attracted the participation of over 20 sixth-year medical students.
The internal residency examination for medical students is a new innovation that the school council has proposed and is being organized at Phan Chau Trinh University for the first time. The goal of the examination is to enhance the professional competence of future doctors before they graduate while also providing students with a residential experience while they are still a student. This marks an important milestone and represents a new direction in the field of medical training. Medical students in the 5th and 6th year who are interested have the opportunity to register for participation, including four specialties: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
Candidates participating in the examination will go through two exam components, including a computer-based written examination with 60 specialized multiple-choice questions, as well as a clinical case examination at the institute. For the clinical case examination, students will be selected by drawing lots to choose clinical cases based on the specialty they have registered for. They will then prepare and complete the case, proceed to examine the patients, and answer interview questions posed by the evaluation board from each specialized field.
The evaluation board members are distinguished clinical professors with in-depth specialized knowledge. They come from 8 practice hospitals within the university's system. Excellent students who pass this examination will have the opportunity to intern and learn at the hospital exclusively, while benefiting from special priority policies offered by the university. This competition adds a unique appeal to the examination.
The students' internal residency examination is part of the school's annual plan, with the hope that it will encourage greater seriousness in the learning of all students in the school and attract more young talents to participate.
